Rebecca Black: The New William Hung

We all remember the American Idol contestant William Hung. His song ”She Bangs” was not so popular with Paula Abdul or Simon Cowell, but America turned his song into a hit. He did not become famous through skill or talent, but for being talentless to say the least. Despite his less than perfect vocal skills, and his interesting dance moves, Hung produced a c.d. that made millions.

Rebecca Black’s new song “Friday” has become almost as “famous” as Hung. Her video was posted on February 10 and now has almost 31 million views. Her name was the hot topic on Twitter and Facebook for the past few weeks. According to an article on cnn.com, her video was commented on by Lord Voldemort’s Twitter account.

There has been a lot of negative publicity about the song. In fact,  according to cnn.com, Billboard said the song was “Straight out of Auto-Tuned hell.” There were also personal attacks against black. In her interview on the Today Show, Black says that the most hurtful message she received said “I hope you go cut yourself, and I hope you get an eating disorder.”

Personally, I believe that all publicity is good publicity. Her song is now iTunes, and rumor has it that she will be coming out with another song.

One Response to Rebecca Black: The New William Hung

  1. I can’t believe how completely and utterly rude people are being to her! She is a child, and is doing something she enjoys. Sure, it’s definitely not the best song I’ve ever heard, and the video is comical, but I can’t lie, the song has been stuck in my head ever since I heard it. The lyrics have also been posted all over Facebook, and she has millions of views on Youtube. The girl is obviously doing something right! People should really stop hating–and take notes.
