Spring break has passed, and we are now nearing the end of the semester. As the days get warmer, it becomes harder to stay focused on these last few weeks of school. My teachers always tend to have a big final project, speech, or paper before finals, and everything seems to be due at once. These weeks are so crucial that they can make or break a student’s grade. I have found some helpful tips on staying focused in an article on collegethrive.com so that the mental exhaustion of the year doesn’t get the best of us.
- Remember the End is Near: By remembering that summer is so close though, it can allows you to work harder. Freedom is weeks away!
- Review Class Deadlines & Due Dates: As the end nears, everything seems to be due at once. It is nice to have a clear view of what is left to accomplish and when you need to have it done by. This might help you avoid procrastination
- Find Motivation: It may be hard to get back into the swing of things after Spring Break, but find something to motivate you! My motivation has been the simple fact that the end is near.
- Schedule: The best way to stay focused is to set aside time each day to focus on schoolwork. This will force you to put time into getting things done. I think of schoolwork it as my second job. I wouldn’t skip work, so I can’t skip homework.
- Resist the Temptation of the Sun: I am increasingly drawn to go outside as the weather gets warmer. It’s hard to study when the sun is calling your name through the library window. If you can concentrate on schoolwork while being outside, then go for it! On the other hand, if you are someone like me who cannot focus while being outside, remember that this weather will be here when school is over.
- Summer will be here before we know it!: If we can stop thinking about it..

These few weeks left are going to be rough! I do find myself having little to no motivation and it is so hard to resist from being outside. It’s so beautiful out and I want to enjoy it! Like you said, the only motivation that I have is the fact that the end is near. Knowing I’ve put a lot of hard work into my classes this semester, I would be extremely disappointed in myself if I ruined that because of my laziness! Unfortunately, I’m a people watcher, so I can’t go outside and study or sometimes even go to the library! I spend to much time looking at my surroundings than the actual books themselves. Guess I’ll just have to coop myself up in my room these last couple weeks! Thanks for the tips, I will definitely be taking advantage of them.
The last few weeks are always the toughest for me! By the time April gets here and professors are cramming in more assignments, projects, papers and test my brain just wants to shut down. Hopefully these tips will help as well as all the rain we have been having will force me to stay inside and study!
But in all reality, our professors are just preparing us for the real world. While it is unfortunate to admit, college and school days are becoming numbered for me. Once I graduate next May, I will be getting a real job, with real hours, and no summer breaks to look forward to! But I think that it will be worth it to have regular hours and not late nights of studying for tests or doing assignments.
While a lot of us moan and complain about these last few weeks of the semester, we just need to keep a positive focus and attitude. Realizing the teachers are not doing this to torture us but to prepare us for what is ahead. I think they are doing a great job at giving us doses of reality!
